At UIW, Morris was twice named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year and three of his teams finished in the top 10 nationally in total offense. According to The Athletic and ESPN, former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was a finalist to land the job. Garrett was the Cowboys' head coach from 2010 to 2019 and most-recently had a stint as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Garrett, 56, has never coached at the college level, though he was a candidate for the Duke job last year. After six seasons at Purdue, Brohm was announced Thursday as the new head coach at Louisville, his alma mater. In all, there are 44 bowl games, including the College Football Playoff and the national championship games, beginning Friday, Dec. 17, and ending on Monday, Jan. 10. Since the formation of the current Mountain West Conference, the Spartans are 7-2 against UNLV, winning all four meetings at home.

Tarkanian was an innovator who had his teams play a pressing defense that forced turnovers to trigger its run-and-gun offense. He was one of the few early coaches to effectively use the three-point shot, which was added by the NCAA in 1986. Tarkanian recruited players that his peers often passed over, taking chances on junior college students or those with a troubled past.
Walters spent the past two seasons as the defensive coordinator for Illinois. UNLV was transformed by Tarkanian from a small commuter college into a national powerhouse. He became a celebrity, and tickets to UNLV games became hot items with regulars, including Vegas headliners Frank Sinatra, Bill Cosby and Don Rickles. With no professional teams in the city, the Rebels became the town's center of attention, and their pregame ceremonies included light shows and fireworks during player introductions.

Brumfield’s primary target in the passing game is Ricky White, and while the Rebels 2nd and 3rd leading receivers both missed last week’s contest, others stepped up in their absence. The Spartans back seven should be prepared for plenty of short and intermediate routes, which seems to be UNLV’s bread and butter as opposed to taking deep shots down the field. This was super effective last week in the come-from-behind victory over New Mexico and is highlighted by Brumfield’s ridiculous 70.5 completion percentage. Again, the tackling will need to be on point to prevent yards after the catch and make the Rebels dink and dunk their way down the field. They each own a win over an FBS team, their losses are on the road to middling Power 5 competition , and they both have an impressive road win in conference play. Of all the similarities though, it would be foolish to look beyond the most important position on the field–quarterback.
Satterfield has a record in 10 years as head coach at Louisville and Appalachian State. Walters, 36, previously was the defensive coordinator at Missouri. He has had a quick rise through the coaching ranks, going from graduate assistant to head coach in a 10-year span.

Don’t sleep on Justin Lockhart or Charles Ross though, each is over 200 yards receiving on the season. At first glance, it may seem the Rebels will present a stiff challenge for Cordeiro and his targets as they have an incredible 11 interceptions thus far, 2nd in the nation to USC’s 12. Also to note is that Cordeiro has not thrown an INT all year. If he can keep a clean sheet for a 5th straight contest, this is the Spartans game to win. Tarkanian was a good friend of college basketball coach Bob Knight.

Key played offensive line at Georgia Tech from 1997 to 2000 and was an all-ACC performer. Before being interim head coach, Key had assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach titles. Perry's involvement triggered yet another NCAA investigation, which resulted in the NCAA initially banning the Rebels from the 1991 NCAA Tournament, only months after they won the 1990 title.
The Rebels have one other slight edge, an extra day of rest, having played Friday last week, and that just might cancel out the home field advantage of San Jose State. There are playmakers all over the field, none more important than the quarterbacks. Whoever is able to make more plays, either with their arm or their legs, is going to lead their team to victory. This is such a tough game to call, the only thing that would be shocking is if one team lays an egg and we have a non-competitive game. After multiple flip-flops, it says here Cordeiro pulls the last rabbit out of his hat and leads the Spartans to a thrilling come-from-behind win.
Inducted in 2013Jerry Tarkanian (August 8, 1930 – February 11, 2015) was an American basketball coach. He coached college basketball for 31 seasons over five decades at three schools. He spent the majority of his career coaching with the UNLV Runnin' Rebels, leading them four times to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, winning the national championship in 1990. Tarkanian revolutionized the college game at UNLV, utilizing a pressing defense to fuel its fast-paced offense. Overall, he won over 700 games in his college coaching career, only twice failing to win 20 games, while never having a losing season. Tarkanian was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
